People change a lot in just 2 years, let alone 4, 7, or 11. Their personalities, priorities, relationships, and outlook on life evolve. If a time skip has little to no impact on the characters or their dynamic, then what's even the point of making it that long? It just feels unrealistic and adds nothing to the story.
