I hate how a large majority of BL is just a sex driven plot instead of there being a plot but then they just have sex sometimes. Like ooooooo he's cursed... so you have to FUCK HIM to get rid of it! ooooooo he's poor and has debt... so you have to FUCK HIM to pay his debts for him. Thats why I kinda pray that stories like A Lovely Meal just stays a cute vampire story and doesnt become 18+ just because the author feels pressured from fans. It has such a cute wonderful plot and I personally feel like that will change the vibe of it for me (this is all personalllllll dont get ur panties in a knot if you disagree, youre allowed to like smut I think it's just become too excessive to a degree). I feel like a lot of people wont read a story unless theres some form of sex in there and find it to be some sort of flaw if a story is just purely based on an actual plot instead of the point of the plot is to lead to sex.
Dont get me wrong! I think theres a place for these specific stories that are purely sex based. Sometimes ya just gotta read a pornhwa lmao. But I hate reading a story with no smut and the comments are just flooded with "WHEN ARE THEY GONNA FUCK??? COME ON!!!" And then you get an authors note that says "I included smut scenes cuz my publishers thought it would bring in more of an audience." Like I cant imagine how sad it has to be for an author/artist to put their heart and soul into a story only for it to be met with "Oh thats cool but like you need people to fuck in this or less people are gonna read it."
All in all, my opinion means nothing and I'm just talking into a void but Idk it was a random thing I was thinking about lmao.

it’s very obvious imo when an author draws their art around a story they’ve clearly already drafted up vs when an author crafts a story around their art style. typically the latter is half assed and has to revolve around some sort of sex-driven plotline.

I love when smut scenes are making love not just fucking. Like there was one story recently I was really enjoying until the first time and it just felt so focused on them cracking every other scene past that.(manhattan romance if anyone is wondering) and I’ve had it happen with SOOO many stories. Like my top stories either dont have smut, or it’s not enough to drive the plot. My top three are payback, which while it does have smut it doesn’t happen til there is a lot of development between the characters and there’s tons of tension instead. Reunion which has three that are genuinely the most beautiful intimate scenes I’ve ever read. And then netkama punch which doesnt have any. I wish more stories didnt feel the pressure to add them because it ends up feeling forced in
I mean I understand that part of it, but at some point I feel like it should be recognized how damaging it is. If you can't survive through a story without the flood of chemicals that your brain gets when you see sexual stuff then ya need a little detox lmao.
BUT that requires some type of self awareness to recognize when you need to take a step back. Unfortunately a lot of people don't see the issue with it so they don't take the time to heal that part of their brain.

YES! This! Sometimes it feels like a story is only created cuz someone has a good art style so they feel like they have to create SOMETHING. That's why I really like when artists adapt novels instead of trying to create a story when they kind of don't have the skillset for it (some artists are blessed with both the skills of art and writing though lol). Some people have the genuine artistry at creating a story and building up an actual universe and some people dont but thats okayyyy lol.
I feel like you’d love Shutline if you haven’t read it. They walk that perfect line (in my opinion, maybe most of the audience) of great art, consistently thought out plot and chemistry driven sex scenes. Not just mindless porn.

1. i get that she’s the mc and she’s starting to change the dynamics of the family but like as a reader this is feels like she’s a character with a lot of plot armour. like i don’t think it would’ve been bad to make her lose any of the “duels” bc i honestly think it could’ve added to the story
2. the cover of the story made it seem like her dad would be more relevant but most of the story especially at the start really revolves around her relationship with her grandfather. which don’t get me wrong that makes sense but like at the start the only time we really see her dad is when he brought her in. more over the start felt so rushed like tell me more about the dead son. show me more of their relationship building.
